To provide more exposure to the world-class research facilities, 45 of Form Six Chemistry students made a visit to the Department of Chemistry of the University of Hong Kong on 24^th April 2008. The Department received a top rating of 5 in the internal Research Assessment Exercise, and has been rated as the No. 1 Chemistry Department in Hong Kong for the second time by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC). During the visit, students were given opportunities to see mass spectrometer, X-ray diffraction crystallography, nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer and infra-red spectrometer. Besides gaining these valuable hands-on experiences, participants were also given several infra-spectra of unknown compounds for them as souvenirs. It is hoped that the visit will not only enhance students’ understanding in Chemistry but also cultivate their interest in exploring the subject both during and outside the class time.
