Each year, the SFX Foundation awards scholarship to those with distinctive academic results in public examinations. This year, our F.6 graduates did brilliantly in the HKDSE examinations 2017. Five of them received the SFX Foundation Outstanding Excellent Performance Scholarship due to their exceptional achievements, including Leung Chi Ho who attained 5** in 6 subjects. Our distinguished alumnus, Mr. Allen Yeung, was among us to present the scholarships to the awardees. Congratulations!
The new academic year of 2017-2018 was kicked off with our traditional School Opening Mass. This year, we have 130 new students joining our school, including 3 F.3 transfer students. They experienced first time the SFXC religious atmosphere and the Xaverian Spirit, which was manifested by our thunderous singing of the school song and ground shaking 3 Cheers. Along with the new students, we have 5 new teaching staff and a new school-based social worker Ms. Lui joining our Xaverian family. The new teaching staff included:
Our new Native English Teacher
Chemistry and Integrated Science teacher
BAFS and Mathematics teacher
Liberal Studies associate teacher
Integrated Science associate teacher
May all the members, old and new, of our Xaverian community enjoy a fruitful academic year.
The new F.1 students have joined their first activity together with their upcoming classmates in the F.1 Induction Day Camp which was held on 28th August, 2016. Early in the morning, gathering in the classrooms with their form teachers and their Big Brothers, they got to know each other.
After the warm up session held in the Hall, a number of challenging team building tasks was prepared for them to experience. The Big Brothers took the F.1 students to explore the nearby district and to choose their own food for lunch carefully in order to win the “Healthy Lunch Competition”.
In the afternoon, the F.1 students were excited to explore the school campus in the Treasure Hunt since they had to answer the questions and complete the tasks set at different locations in the school. Through the meaningful sharing by a F.2 student and the big brothers, the F.1 boys found it useful and interesting for them to adapt the new learning environment. Accompanying and guiding the F.1 students to tackle all the problems for the whole day, the Big Brothers established a relationship of trust with them. All of the form teachers, big brothers and F.1 students left with many enduring memories of the time they spent on the first day they met.
The Form 1 Summer Bridging Course 2017 course was successfully held from 19th to 28th July. The 8-day tailor-made course aimed to accustom the newly admitted Form 1students to the English learning environment and school life in St. Francis Xavier’s College. During the lessons, the boys learnt different academic subjects using English as the medium of instruction, taught by Native English Teachers and our Form 6 graduates.
The Course was drawn to a complete close with a simple but solemn graduation ceremony and some snapshots to capture the happy and warm memories.
